Love of the Dance
Rowan Fae is made up of dancers mostly of school age who perform year-round at various venues throughout the Pacific Northwest. We are not an accredited school of Irish dance, but we enjoy having fun while learning steps and dances to both traditional and modern Celtic and Irish music.
Rowan Fae loves to dance. There is something about the rhythm of the music, the rhythm of the steps and the rhythm of the dance that has mesmerized us.
Rowan Fae was started in 1999, and while we are a fairly small school, we seem to be just the right size for performances at schools, elder care facilities and festivals. Rowan Fae can put on a short demonstration or a one hour plus performance. Our performances include explanations of Irish traditions in dance, costumes, instruments and music.
About Us
Rowan Fae Instructor/Director Jenny Kolln has been Irish dancing since 1993, originally learning with friends at Ceilis. Most of these Ceilies were hosted by Northwest Irish Dancers in the Seattle area. In 1994, Jenny began formal lessons with NWID. While with NWID, Jenny travelled to the Milwaukee Irish Festival twice to study Irish dance during their Hedge School with Donny Golden, TCRG, ADCRG, National Heritage Award Winner.
In 1995, Jenny began assisting with teaching at NWID in Seattle and in 1997 Jenny took over an Irish dance class in Kent, WA. After a break with NWID in 1998, Jenny began her own school, Rowan Fae Irish Dancers.
Jenny has continued to study Irish dance in all its forms and is very grateful to the Raney sisters of Tara Academy for their assistance in Jenny’s continued pursuit of Irish dance education.
Rowan Fae’s primary location is at the InMotion Performing Arts Studio in Poulsbo, WA; Miss Jenny is also available for private and group lessons by arrangement. Rowan Fae is a small school with under 20 dancers. Dancers with Rowan Fae typically range in age from 5 to 25.
